How ABCers Spent their Summer Vacation
Lila Carl
It is traditional that we go to Crested Butte Colorado
for two weeks where
we share a condo with friends from Austin. We sometimes
take a two or three
day horse trip, hike, play tennis, white water raft,
and play vicious volley
ball most evenings. For the last five years, I have
hiked to the top of Mt.
Crested Butte (12,400 ft.) to celebrate my birthday.

On Saturday, June 19, 2004, I was blessed to complete
my second marathon. As many of you know, I have been
training to walk a marathon in Anchorage, AK for the
past six months. I raised funds for the Leukemia &
Lymphoma Society of America. The culmination of this
effort is the marathon (26.2 miles) in Alaska. What
a glorious opportunity. Alaska was gorgeous and the
weather was perfect for the race. On Saturday, the temperature
was a perfect 75 degrees. We started the race at 8:00
AM and it took me 7:16:14 hours to complete the walk.
We walked through God’s country, looking at mountains
and streams and wild flowers for most of the route.
It took me longer than I had planned, but I finished
with no blisters or physical ailments. It was worth
the trip.

year's Luau on the Lake raffle)...
Lucky gal.
