Dear Friends:
Our last newsletter highlighted
our merger with the Candlelighters Childhood Cancer
Foundation. After almost one year’s cycle of events,
we are convinced that the merger
was a good decision for both agencies and the families
of children with cancer. The range and depth of services
for children with cancer has been greatly expanded and
enhanced. Parent focus groups have led staff in development
of programs which are most helpful to them in managing
their lives through the various stages of treatment
of their children’s
cancer.
In other areas, all of our programs continue
to grow. We have had to add a third evening parenting
class and our morning parenting and adult literacy classes
are full.
The parents are very proud of learning
English and to read and write. We hope to take these
skills further so that these individuals can become
computer literate and wage earners. Any Baby Can was
one of five agencies in the United States awarded with
a 15 passenger van by Ford Motor Company in their Health
on Wheels (Salud Sobre Ruedas) program. The van will
be used to transport families in our Healthy and Fair
Start Program on learning field trips. We are very proud
of this honor.
With the increased growth in programs,
comes the need for increased collaboration with other
agencies for shared space, and more space. Any Baby
Can is beginning strategic planning for future expansion;
possibly satellite offices for specific programs or
other options.
The second annual Dennis Quaid Celebrity
Golf Tournament was very successful with even more celebrities.
Dennis Quaid, Greg Kinnear, Carlos Bernard and Jack
McKee personally visited ABC. It is truly a blessing
to be the beneficiary of their attention and kindness.
We are also grateful for the continuing support of local
funding sources such as the Michael and Susan Dell,
Topfer, Holt Foundations, and corporate support such
as Target, Wells Fargo, Bank One, 3M, IBM, Applied Materials,
just to name a few. We will be honoring all of our supporters
in our new Angel Society on November 3rd at a very special
event.
