| Sponsor an Any Baby Can/Candlelighters family for
the Holidays |
 |
Last Christmas over 200 families receiving services
from ABC and Candlelighters had a brighter Holiday
because individuals, businesses, organizations, and
churches rallied together and gave from their hearts.
This December once again, friends of Any Baby Can
will again have the opportunity to sponsor a family
in our annual Holiday Giving Program. To learn how
you can provide a brighter holiday for a family in
need, please call Linda Chaouche at 439-3253 or at
development@abcaus.org. Deadline for sponsorships
is November 15, 2004.

| ABC Employee and Program Spotlight with Angelica
Guerrero |
 |
For the past two years, Angelica Guerrero has been
making a difference in her community working as a
social worker in the Healthy and Fair Start Program
of Any Baby Can. She lived in Mexico City for close
to 14 years. She also lived in Spain and California
before moving to Austin.
She has spent many years educating others. She
was a Junior High School teacher after finishing
her Bachelor's degree in Anthropology and a child
development teacher at Safe Place, where she volunteered
while getting her Master's in Social Work from the
University of Texas at Austin.
"The most wonderful thing about the Healthy and
Fair Start Program of Any Baby Can," says Angelica,
"is that we truly care about helping people in need.
We accept all people interested in the program as
long as they are willing to make a positive change
in their lives. We follow every family through each
step of the way and if we cannot help them, we know
where to refer them to."

| Bom Dia from the Carnaval |
 |
| Colors, Tastes, Sounds and Excitement were the bywords
of Carnaval on the Lake, held September 25, 2004 at
Carlos n Charlie's. Monica Pottorff and her wonderful
team of friends made this second year event a spectacular
followup to last year's Luau on the Lake. At the moment
of entry, guests were transported to a fantasy land
of a Brazilian Carnaval, starting with fanciful feather
boas given to everyone, along with a casino chip.
Dress varied widely from practically nothing (!) to
spiked high heels and cocktail dresses.
Non-stop entertainment began with the Austin Samba
School playing a driving samba beat, getting everyone
in the Carnaval mood the Grupo Capoeira demonstrated
a martial arts style unique to Brazil. The Escola
de Samba (grand parade) culminated in the start
of a style show featuring fashions available at
Shiki and Ciao Rio, and special designs by Kimbolki
St. James, all coordinated by Diane Nicholas.
There was something for everyone - a full casino,
silent auction, live auction and a raffle. The grand
prize, a trip to Brazil compliments of American
Airlines, was won by a very happy guest, Deborah
McMichael. Rounding out the evening, The Brew provided
latin dance music - samba, salsa and more.
"The Carnaval on the Lake is very important to
Any Baby Can," noted Jonathan Friedman, Development
Director. "Aside from the fundraising income we
receive, we meet new people who may never have had
any connection with Any Baby Can. We're very grateful
to our sponsors and particularly to the restaurants
Rocco's Grill, Iron Cactus, Carlos'n Charlie's,
Truluck's, SamPaio's, Roy's Hawaiian Fusion, and
Cool River Cafe who so generously donate their food
for the event. Because of them, all costs of the
event are covered and everything donated goes directly
to the programs which we provide to our community."
Our dedicated sponsors made this years event an
incredible success. Thanks to you all. Carnaval
sponsors include: The Law Firm of Rosenthal &
Watson, Guaranty Insurance Services, Wells Fargo,
Financial Process Group, Bank One, FPG Morgage,
Tropical Productions, Schulz & Company, Copy
