Steven
Price, a 17-year-old Leander High School student and Boy Scout
who dreams of one day becoming a STARFLIGHT Medic, has been
working hard over the last six months on a community project
to earn his Eagle Scout rank. It just so happens that hundreds
of Any Baby Can clients are going to be blessed by Steven's
efforts. Through collection bins at the Dell Jewish Community
Center Day Care, First United Methodist in Round Rock, and the
VFW Post 8787 (the Boy Scout meeting area), Steven collected
2,500 diapers, 200 bottles of formula, and $200 in Randall's

Candlelighters
RPM Challenge raises over
$18,000 |
|

|
|
The
Candlelighters 2004 RPM challenge sped ahead of last year's
numbers, bringing in $18,000; more than twice the amount raised in '03! A total of 42 teams raced at
the RPM Indoor Raceway on Saturday, February 28th. Team
divisions were made up of accountants, engineers, Any Baby
Can/Candlelighters fathers and many others, including our
overall sponsor, Resource Financial Group! This family-fun
event was enjoyed by everyone who participated, with
entertainment for the entire family. From a silent auction,
raffle, and moonwalk to face painting and high endurance
racing, RPM had it all. A special thanks to Starbucks &
Round Rock doughnuts for providing breakfast, Gattiland for
donating pizza for lunch, and Pokejo's for donating a
delicious barbecue dinner. Any Baby Can/Candlelighters
appreciates all who came out and participated; see you racers
back on the track in 2005! View videos and pictures from

On

Tavita Flores received a brand new pair of hip New Balance
tennis shoes. She was so excited as
you can see from the picture with her son, Josue, and Any Baby
Can Family Literacy teacher, Ruth Wells. One of the incentives
for mothers involved in our weekday literacy classes is the
chance to earn a new pair of shoes from Shoes for
Austin.
Shoes for
Austin
recognizes
these mothers for their efforts in self improvement. When the
mothers master, in English, 2 or 3 of the standards for the
Texas Standardized Curriculum Framework, they receive a free
pair of new shoes.
Shoes
for Austin
is a
nonprofit organization that gives new athletic shoes and socks
to young children and adults who strive to improve their
lives. Any Baby Can teams up with over 50 local nonprofit
organizations and partners with them to support their clients.

The
spirit of the Rockin' Roundup spread to the youngest of our
supporters...event raises over
$80,000 |
|
|
|
The
spirit of the Rockin' Roundup spread to the youngest of our
supporters. Sara Ratliff, daughter of co-chair Stacy Ratliff,
saw all the hard work her mother was doing in planning and
executing the Roundup and decided she wanted to do some
fundraising on her own. So, as the various committees and
volunteers were setting up for the festivities on Saturday
afternoon, she and her able cohorts, her brother Taylor and
friend Madison Hampton, did their own
fundraising drive, selling fresh fruit to the workers. In the
end, she raised over $17, quite impressive for her first
event.
As
guests crossed the gate at Texas Disposal Systems Exotic Game
Ranch, they truly entered the Wild Wild West, greeted there by
two scruffy cowboys who playfully harassed the surprised
partygoers. That set the stage for an evening of fun and
fundraising unmatched by any previous event.
This
event was made possible because of the hard work and
dedication of our invaluable volunteers and supporters. In
raising over $80,000, this year's Rockin' Roundup event was
our most successful to date. With your help, we can carry on
this tradition and continue to help
Austin
families in need.
Our
dedicated sponsors, Texas Disposal Systems, Bank One, AT&T
Wireless, BRSG Austin, Texas Monthly, Austin Monthly, Haynes
and Boone, Wells Fargo, Word of Mouth Catering, KEYE TV, Bank
of America, KVET, CRS, Jack Mountain Ranch, and Randalls
helped make this the fabulous financial success that it was.
